Online social networking - business or personal

As a newbie to social networking, I'm confused about what to tweet/linkin/facebook about. I see that Facebook is mostly for friends - in the true sense - so I'm surprised by the number of business colleagues, principally BNI members, who ask to befriend me. I'm also surprised by people like international speaker and business blogger Debbie Mayo-Smith using Twitter to tell followers she's at the gym or buying Easter eggs for her kids. Certainly, she also uses it for business promotions. When I…See More

Nestle

The online debacle currently besieging Nestle is fascinating from a reputation management standpoint. It offers a number of lessons for viral marketers. 1. Never underestimate the power of the individual. A boycott of Nestle products one week out from Easter will surely hurt sales. 2. Whether or not Greenpeace was behind the viral attack, listen to your customers rather than slagging them off and taking action against them. Roll with the punches and you'll end up looking like the good guy, not…See More

How to make the most of online networking

Many of us are new to using online networking and are unsure how to make the most of being connected to other business colleagues, clients, suppliers or fellow members of organisations like BNI. After all, it’s very different from the traditional ways we’ve been communicating with people all these years. The problem has been exercising my mind, too, of recent days and thanks to reading relevant books and online information, I can now…

Hi Lynnaire!
Hope you're not freezing your ***'s off down there!
Yeah, social media is so important these days and becoming increasingly so. It takes more time in the early stages as you go through the learning curve, but it soons becomes just something you do. I guess it's a bit like BNI, it sucks up time but the payoff is worth it!
