BNI New Zealand online community

HI All,

Loving the opportunities that BNIonline is creating and the great people that are taking the time to help it grow!

Our business is now a legal requirement for businesses but I am having trouble finding an appropriate angle to promote this without risking 'waving the big stick of compliance'. I would love to hear if any other businesses are in a similar position and how they get their message across. We are a nationwide specialist service that really safes lives by preventing electrocution  and prevents electrical fires in businesses.

I believe your customers are your best advertising from referrals, however only a few members of our Chapter have really embraced our service. It will be hard for them to give me referrals if they aren't convinced enough that they need it done themselves...

I like to think of myself as a bit of a creative type but really value the experience of you all!

Regards,

Hi Grant. I can't say I have an answer for you but looking over your web site I see a couple of things that stand out. I see that you test electric blankets. Coming up to winter this must be a good earner and, perhaps, a way of uping your business profile and essentially getting you into someones home and thereafter showing them what else you can do. We have a sparky in our group who bought along a small device that actually gave you a small electric shock...it got the message across! Also, lots of us blokes have dodgy old power tools lying around that should be tested...another potential talking point for your 60 seconds..with some show and tell? Hope this helps :)
Hi Tim, thanks for your feedback. Being in the field of electrical safety I don't think its a good look if I give people a shock... but I absolutely get your point.

You are right about the electric blankets and I am just preparing to conduct just this in support of our local volunteer fire brigade, with all proceeds going towards their fund raising. The only problem with targeting the domestic market with a just our electric blanket testing service is the time taken verses the ROI. We are currently putting together a domestic package that would cover other electrical items within a house that would improve household safety without costing the earth. Hopefully the community based testing we are going to do with the Devonport Fire Brigade over the next few weeks will give us a good indicator as to the interest in this.

My challenge is to get my Chapter members to use our service, particularly as it is now a legal requirement and not just a 'nice to do'.

Thanks heaps for taking the time to share your thoughts and please let me know if you are interested in one of my colleagues contacting you to discuss your companies electrical safety :)

Have a great weekend!
