My goal is to get 1 post up per week, I've been slack so I'm taking action and have scheduled my weekly BNI post in my diary...
I thought I would share 4 Simple Steps for more powerful goal setting:
When someone asks you do you have goals or a vision....Do you feel like you have just been asked to eat turnip or broccoli??
If that’s what comes up for you that’s OK just park it for a moment and consider this….
Goals are meaningless without a strong, clear reason to take the action required to achieve them and not as effective if your conscious mind and subconscious are not in alignment…. Consider a Kayak; your conscious mind is the oar(s) and yoursubconscious the rudder…if they are not aligned when you are on the water you tend to go in circles!
As business owners and leaders we all know the importance of having goals the most successful business people and athletes in the world have them, its good practice, its good for our life and our health to have a strong purpose, a reason WHY!
So here are 4 simple steps to more effective goal setting:
1.Know what your goals are giving you: if your goal is more money, or profit, what will that give you personally? And ask yourself WHY MUST you have this?........because the WHY is what you are really after!...write your answers down, and keep asking WHY until you cannot go further...
2. Use your answer from step 1 to form a completed goal statement. Tell yourself that you have already achieved the goal: ‘I am happy and grateful that I have achieved XYZ’and describe what having achieved it is like, what do you see? what do you hear? where are you? who are you with? how are you feeling?
Be specific: yourbrain acts on specifics and write your completed goal statement with feeling and emotion – as Tony Robbins says ‘There is no motion without emotion’.
Make your statements personal and selfish....ITS OK TO HAVE MORE!
3. For goals, like a new porsche, a prada hand bag (ladies)...big generalization there :-) Find good quality images of what you want and print them off and match your images to your completed goal statements, and rather than have a picture of a new boat, find a picture of the boat that you want on the water! (google images is a great resource for finding free pictures)
4. Now is the hard part.....Integration you have done all of this hard work, How do you put this into action? How do you form a habit of looking at your images and reading your statements? My clients use different tools to help them integrate their statements and images into their daily routines....using a vision board in the office, carrying your statements with you, in an A5 folder, using your screensaver on the computer, a reminder on your PDA or mobile to read your statements and look at your vision board, having your vision board and statements where you can see them....on the fridge door etc and there are some very good software programmes out there as well. There are many ways, you just need to find the best way for you and remember you only experience the benefits when you actually use these tools, its just like exercising, the more you stretch and use a muscle the stronger it gets and WHAT IF.....it actually worked!
What would your business and life be like when you have got X,Y,Z?
If your completed goal statements and images inspire you and generate positive thoughts and good emotions, normal then you will be called forth to take ACTION to bring the circumstances that you want into reality!
Steps 1-4 imprints your subconscious mind, your engine room in the back….use it....recent studies suggest it equates to around 83% of your brain!
Remember...there is no motion without emotion!
