I recently did my 10 minutes and being my 3rd I was feeling much more confident to do more than just stand at the front of the room and go through a power point presentation. So, I applied some of the techniques I use when training people. Using auditory and visual components I got everyone involved by asking questions and having the write down answers, both individually & in groups. We then shared some of the answers as a collaborative process to show how I achieve outcomes for clients. I believe when you are involved in something you remember it a lot better than having someone speak at you for 10minutes. One thing I did learn was when you are involving the chapter you really need to allow plenty of time so consider less content but make it really meaningful.

This morning I took my Apple Mac computer in for my 10 minute presentation, and showed everyone how I see a job from start to finish. First I started with a role play, a client asking for a leaflet to be designed. Then I showed on the computer how I would interpret what the client has asked for, using Indesign, Illustrator and Photoshop.

thanks for the invite Tracey! here's a copy of what i posted to the 60 seconds group...very pertinent to this group.

Thought i'd just have a wee brag about my 10 minute speech yesterday.

I picked out and wrote into 28 greeting cards, one for each if our chapter members and 4 for guests (we actually had 5 guests, it was busy morning!). Each message was tailored to the individual - having been in the chapter 4 years i know people pretty well now!

These cards were given out at the start of my 10 minutes. During my talk i mentioned how email marketing open-rates can vary hugely but many industrys display opening rates of 10- 30%. So 1-3 in 10 of your email marketing messages get looked at.

I then asked for a raise of hands from those who had opened their envelopes and looked at their personalised cards.

almost 100%

WOOT!

I suppose this displays the importance of props and building them 'actively' into your talk.

I had a bit of fun this week, as I have been in business for 2 years on the 1st April I thought my 10 minutes could be the quickest party ever.
I had balloons tied to all the chairs, everyone had a party hats and blowers. So then I started by getting everyone on their feet for a dance, while I played some music (Celebration) after that I told everyone why we were having a party. Then like all good parties you have to play pass the parcel, so we did, every wrapper that was taken off had a question for me to answer or on the odd occasion a forfeit, where I asked them a question, at the end I again got everyone to stand up and shout out my memory hook, which is "PROMOTING YOUR BUSINESS WITH CREATIVE IDEAS".
The door prize was a bottle of wine, as at every good party you need a drink.

Have fun....and make sure everyone remembers you.

Tracey's presentation this morning was very effective and a lot of fun. Nobody was too shy to put their hats on and dance away. We had three visitors this morning and I think they got a very good impression of our fun Bethlehem chapter. Well done Tracey and again Congratulations!!
